The International Young Governance Professionals (IYGP) is an independent, global community of young leaders dedicated to cultivating fresh perspectives in corporate and non-profit governance.
Governance and board positions are typically associated with later stages in careers and knowledge about governance is gained ‘on the job’. However, as failures in governance have become increasingly public, more and more young people have become interested in corporate and non-profit governance as a field of research, theory and practice.
IYGP was created based on key findings from a panel session held in 2010. A group of young people involved in board governance, academically and professionally, came together as part of the Young Governors’ Speak plenary session at the 2010 Annual Conference of the International Policy Governance Association to discuss their experiences in governance and how they viewed the future of governance. This session prompted the idea of broadening this panel session into a wider event for young people interested in corporate and non-profit governance. This resulted in young people creating the first ever International Young Governance Professionals Annual Summit in Toronto, Canada, in June 2013 which was a great success and these summits are now taking place each year.
The 4th Annual IYGP Summit is taking place from June 16-18, 2016, in Toronto, Canada.
The Annual Summit of the International Young Governance Professionals brings together young people who would like to learn more about governance best practices, how they can be improved, and how young people can engage with governing bodies and structures. The Summit offers a platform to uncover synergies and crossovers in governance research, ideas and best practices and to share ideas with governance experts and practitioners from around the world as well as fellow IYGP Summit delegates. For those who are already on boards or other governing bodies, the IYGP Summit is an opportunity to explore governance practice in a formal group setting, gain knowledge that you can take back to your board, and network with other young governors. The IYGP Summit currently takes place with the support of International Policy Governance Association (IPGA) and alongside the annual conference of the IPGA.
The IYGP also aims to serve as a network and community for young governance professionals year round and our volunteers are currently working on new events, webinars and seminars to add to our yearly calendar. If you would like to join our mailing list, please email email@example.com.
